AK sign

The TREE OF LIFE is the central icon of Animal Kingdom. I am in awe of this unique masterpiece every time I see it. I canít get enough pictures of this beautiful tree. Every time you look at this tree you will find a new animal that you didnĎt see before.

Tree of Life

It took 13 artist a year and a half to make the carvings of the more than 325 carved animals on the 4 story high tree trunk.

Tree of Life

12 Imagineers worked day and night, with a crew of plasterers, to create the exterior of the tree carvings.

AK sign

It took 18 months to build the entire tree. There over 102,000 1 foot leaves that were attached by hand on branches spreading 160 feet across.

As you walk down the path that takes you around the exterior of the tree you can see the different angles of the tree.

Tree of Life carvings

There is a dinosaur (which is very large), buffalo, praying mantis, fish, whale, rhino, monkey, pelican...

Tree of Life carvings

...cobra, an owl, armadillo, elephant, camel, baboon, eagle, seahorse, dolphin, a herd of antelope and many more...

Tree of Life carvings

They are amazing and some you have to really look because they may be part of the tree branches.

FUN FACT: Jane Goodall was invited to visit the Animal Kingdom park as a consultant and saw the Tree of Life during its construction. She didnít see a chimp as part of the tree. Disney corrected the situation by adding the carving of one of her most famous chimps, David Graybeard. This chimp was the grey-chinned male who was the first chimp who warmed up to Goodall when she was in the wild. You can see him and the plaque honoring her at the entrance of "Itís Tough to be a Bug."

Tough to be a Bug

ITíS TOUGH TO BE A BUG from the Disney-Pixar film "A Bugís Life" is a wonderfully cute (but loud) 3-D show from a bugís point of view.

Tree of Life Pin

You have to walk around the amazing Tree of Life and in to the root section to enter.

Tree of Life carvings

Donít miss the animals that are carved in the gnarled roots that are all around and above you.

When you follow the path to its end you will find that you are at an entrance to "Itís Tough to be a Bug".

As you walk in you will notice all the sounds of bugs all around you. You and your family will enjoy this 3-D film that was inspired by DisneyĎs Pixar Film, "A Bugs Life". Flick is the master of ceremonies. There are some unusual special effects that will get you jumping off your seats.

There is lots of seating in the 430 seat theatre and each seat is a great seat. Donít put the 3-D "Bug-Eye" glasses on until Flik tells you to.

The special effects are great and stinky (the stink bug) really smells bad. There are hornets that swarm the audience, even though you canít see them, you will feel them!

Hopper, the bad (guy) grasshopper is a totally amazing piece of advanced audio animatronics Disney Imagineers have ever created. (He has over 70 functions) . They all look real but he really does look like he could jump off the stage. Flik is just as adorable and a wonderful M.C.

Kids enjoy it, as well as adults, but there are some creepy and scary moments in the dark. (It can be very scary for little ones) Iím very scared of spiders and at the end huge black widows come down from the ceiling. I just close my eyes and grab the person that is next to me. This 8 minute show is worth the scare at the end.

Tuck Roll

TIP: If you have little ones sit in the back by an exit just incase you have to leave.
